Yesterday and today was hectic for us. We rushed from company to company at all ends of Shanghai. The tale and photos...
MONDAY (17/9/07) - Day 2
We wore formal wear on that day, thus starting our day with a group photo at our hotel lobby. We proceeded to our first company for the day, Steinweg Shanghai Chemical Logistics (Shanghai) Co Ltd. The general manager did a short introduction presentation to us in their on-site meeting room. Next, he brought us around their 20,000 sq m warehouses. It's still under renovation, thus we were able to see clearly the safety measurements taken in the chemical warehouse.
After that, they hosted us for lunch. It was a fabulous one, almost 20 course lunch!
Next we went to ST-Anda. The person who hosted us is from Singapore. He did a brief introduction of the company to us, and brought us around their warehouses. We had a chance to see close-up how a fork lift transfer different types of goods in different packaging.
Following up, we went to Shanghai Baowan Logistics Park. Before bringing us to dinner, they showed us the brids' eye view of the whole logistics park during their presentation. Dinner was just as great as our lunch! Here's some pics to tempt you!
TUESDAY (18/9/07) - Day 3
Today, we woke up earlier as the first company that we were visiting needed around 2.5hrs to get there. And the result of that is a bus full of sleeping beauties...
Yangshan Deep Water Port is where we were heading for. I heard from our tour guide that we are the most privileged one as we are one of the few who are able to travel to the port. It is a highly restricted area, thus not all are allow to enter. We had to travel the longest bridge in the world, the Donghai Bridge - 32.5km. They host did a short presentation of the place using a cool model. Took photos. And, we went round the port on our bus to have a close up view on the ports operation. I believe it was the first time for all of us!
[The looong bridge…]
Next, we went to ProLogis Park Lingang Logistics Park. We learnt that Shanghai will most probably be the leader in the Shipping Industry in terms of no. of TEUs handle due to the emerging ports around the city.
Carying on, we went to Shanghai Maritime University. The i/c of the school's International Studies department did an introduction to the school and the scholarships that are available for us Singaporeans. They hosted us for dinner. We were being ushered to the dining area, warmly welcomed by a group of SMU students. We shared tables with them, and had dinner together. Initially, most of us had a hard time in starting the 'ball' rolling, partly due to some communication barriers. However, I'm sure all of us had a fun time interacting with them in the end. They are a bunch of fun and great people to hang out with!
